Architects of ideas: The Office of Biotechnology catalyzes the formation of, and participation in, cross-disciplinary research programs and special projects not typically held within the traditional academic setting. The overall program encourages and fosters environments where researchers, clinicians, and staff manage programs and projects widely beneficial to the University, the Texas Medical Center and gulf coast region, the State of Texas, and the nation as a whole. Research ideas and subsequent programs are forward thinking and diverse, currently encompassing the following categories: diagnostic imaging, cardiology, influenza, nanotechnology, public health informatics, biosurveillance, and disaster preparedness. Overall, groups strive to promote commercialization of discoveries and inventions that improve medical care and public health. Scientists, clinicians and staff gain invaluable experience, become future leaders in academia, business and government, and gain national and international recognition and awards through participation in these programs. |
